I also just got back from the Peace Corps from working as a health volunteer in Guatemala.

  44. HI Charlie,
My name is Liz and I am coming to Bali in January and would like to visit and know what I might be able to do or bring to assist the orphanage.
I can be contacted on rokka6108@gmail.com. I need to know if the children speak English or if I will need to learn some of their language.
I would be happy to stay for a week or two in January to help out.

    Cheers,
    Liz

  45. Hi there,

Am planning a day trip with my wife and 3 kids (aged 9, 5 and 2) and was hoping to spend a bit of time playing with the kids and helping out if required. Probably on 19th, 20th or 21st October would be best for us. What day would be best for you? Also, would like to donate some clothes, but I hear you are full – what other things can we bring from Australia to donate? Looking forward to visiting!

  46. Dear Sirs,
We have students from our department of education and social studies, who very much would like to go to an orphanage in Bali for their practice placement period.
The period is from February 1st until July 31st, 2012.
Will it be possible for you to welcome our students in this period?
Thank you very much for an early reply!
    Yours faithfully,
    Mrs. Kirsten Nyholm

  47. Hello. My name is Christina and I was looking to do some volunteering overseas. Could you please tell me more about volunteering with you.

  48. Myself, my friend, and our 8yr old daughters are coming to bali in the first week of November this year. We would love to come for a visit, and the girls are very excited and putting clothes & toys aside to donate already. We are thinking anytime between the 3rd and 5th of November. Do we book in? Or will these dates be fine to just come by?

    Samarah

  49. Hi Charlie,

Blessings for all the wonderful things you do! I wanted to ask a favour as I can’t find the answer on the net. I’ve been to Bali once and stayed with a lovely family. Now they are in trouble and I want to help as they have lost their house. I wanted to pay for their child’s school fees but I can’t find out how much without insulting the lady – he is a boy of about 14 or 15 and so probably in a very simple high school. Could you please give me a rough estimate of what the school fees are in Bali?

    Many thanks!

    Celie

    • Hi Celie – Glad you wrote!
The costs of school for someone that age is about 15us to 45us per month (the 45 being a VERY nice private school)
Just be careful of sending all your savings before confirming the situation in person. It is very common to get taken in by a situation like this only to find out later that everything was not what it seemed. Not to discourage your generosity, but just use your best judgement.

  50. I will be visiting Bali with one of my friend in October 21-22nd 2011. I was wondering when will be a good time to visit the children and whom should I contact with in regards to my visit?
    Thank you.

    • Hi Lee!
You can just show up on any weekday after 1pm. (that is when the kids get home from school) Any of the Sisters and staff will be able to show you around and introduce you to the children. Thanks for caring!

  51. Hello,
We are planning a holiday in Bali at the end of November, 2011. I will be travelling with my two sons aged 24 years old. We would like the opportunity to visit the children and maybe we could read them some Aussie stories, plus the two boys Jay and Aaron can also help with any school work the older children may have. Both boys have worked within our community here in Perth with the disadvantaged and marginalised youth.

We would appreciate a response from you so we can organise our visit to your organisation.

    Thank you
    Sandi

    • Hi Sandi and Sons!
Happy to hear that you would like to help out and visit with the children! You can just show up on any weekday after 1pm when the kids are just arriving from school. Any of the Sisters or staff can help you out. There is not a way to arrange anything ahead of time as communication is difficult, so just showing up works best.
      Safe travels to you!

  52. Hi,
My friend and I are coming to Bali during mid January and would love to volunteer in anything or any projects you guys need.

    Many thanks,
    Amanda

    • Hi Amanda – glad you wrote and happy to hear that you would like to help!
The only current way to apply for a volunteer position is in person. Sister Clemensia (the person in charge) has now asked to meet with anyone that is interested in volunteering, so there is not a way to do it before hand. The orphanage is so full that you need to make your own arrangements for accommodations. Sister C. is usually available any weekday from 9am to 12, but you might have to make a trip or 2 to catch her for sure. You can also try emailing them at pasidhiastu@yahoo.co.id and see if you can set up a meeting ahead of time.
      Thanks for caring!

  53. Hi I am coming to Bali in March 2012, is there any problem with customs getting in donated clothes. Do we need a letter to prove the items are for the orphanage?
    Thank You Julie

    • Hi Julie!
I have never had a problem getting clothes through customs. Just write “yatim piatu – clothes” on the outside of the box. (loosely translated that means without parents or orphaned) and you’ll probably just get some very sincere “thank you’s” from the customs agents if you get your things looked through.
      Thanks for helping Julie!

  54. Hello
My name is Madeleine and I am travelling to Bali on December 13th, 2011 from Cairns Australia. I would love to get the chance to come to the orphange meet the children, play, do arts and crafts or anything else that they enjoy. Do I need to arrange a day and time? And is this orphange in Tuka? Since I am a solo traveller what would be my best means of travel? I am just seeking as much information on getting there ect as possible.

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Kind regards,
    Madeleine

    • Hi Madeleine!
Communication is difficult, so it is best to just show up any weekday after 1pm. Have a look on the Map and Transportation pages of this site for info on getting there.
      Thanks for helping!

  55. I would love to know how you go about sponsoring a child at your orphanage.

    • Hi Sandy!
Right now it is only possible through making a visit and arranging sponsorship with Sister Corry. If you would like to help out from right where you are at, please have a look at these two other orphanages that their same order works with on the islands of Timor and Sumba. I have just returned to Bali from a visit with both places and their needs are shocking. You can find the info here. http://thegiveteam.com/2011/09/25/sumba-timor-orphanages/
      Thanks for writing!

    • Hi Sandy!
The only way is to make a visit in person and arrange it directly with Sister Corry. If you would like to help right away with some of the other orphanages that their same organization works with on other islands that have great immediate needs, you can find info and addresses on this post: http://thegiveteam.com/2011/09/25/sumba-timor-orphanages/
      Thank you for your generosity!

  56. my partner & I are visiting Bali later this year.. we both have experience & a huge passion for working with children in need(I’m a social worker & he is a teacher) & we would love to spend an afternoon (or two) volunteering our time at the orphanage.. we would be available to visit on the 1st and/or 2nd December.

    • Hi Jenna!
Both of those days would work great if you just showed up after 1pm when the children are getting home from school. You can find info and a map on getting to the orphanage on this website. Thanks for your generosity!

  57. hello my name is Janet (jan) i have moved from brisbane queensland australia to bali canggu area,i have visited the Tuka orphange and another 1 which i’m sorry but can not remember the name but was not far from where i ive now, and that was some years ago, i have been reading the stories and a lot of people coming to bali for only a few days and haven’t got time to take there donations to the orphanages,,so i was thinking maybe thats a way for me to help as i can meet them at the airport and take to the orphanages for them,i have my own transport so wouldn’t cost them to pay for a taxi and you would know it got there. you can email me on this address if i can help,, if i can help i will set up another email address as i’m sure i will be busy, thank you jan x

    • Wow Janet – what a generous offer!
The best thing to do would be to meet directly with Sister Clemensia and arrange a plan with her. Just show up any morning between 9 and 12 (you might have to make a visit or two to make it happen) Your help will be much appreciated and will definitely make a big difference.
      Thanks for helping!

  58. Hello, My boyfriend (26yo) and I (24yo) are holidaying in Bali from 23-30 October 2011.
We would be interested in coming to visit one afternoon, and would be very happy to be able to contribute some items which the children require.
Please let us know what would be beneficial for us to contribute.
    We are travelling from Australia.
Is it possible to visit at some during our holiday?
    With thanks, Megan

    • Hi Megan! Both orphanages on Bali that are run by these Sisters are in good shape with their basic needs and have requested help with just the children’s school fees. If you would like to help some of the other orphanages their organization works with that do not get much help at all, please have a look at this post here for more info and addresses that you can send food and clothing to. http://thegiveteam.com/2011/09/25/sumba-timor-orphanages/!

      Thanks for caring!

  59. Hi. Myself and my sister and two friends of ours are heading over to Bali mid January to early February 2012. During this time we would really like to take the opportunity to visit the orphanage for 3 or 4 days to meet the children and assist with any tasks you may need doing. Cleaning? Activities? etc. What is the best way to arrange this if this is at all possible? Is there an email address I can use to contact to arrange this please? Would really appreciate any feedback you can give. Best wishes. Sarah

    • Hi Sarah!

  60. Hello,
We will be travelling to Bali with my daughter (9 years old) in mid December. I would like to arrange to spend a day or two at the orphanage (day visits) to help out with any tasks we can and also for my daughter to spend some time with the children. Can you please advise if it will be ok to do this and which day would be best for us to visit.

    Thanks,

    Megan.

    • Hi Megan!
Any weekday would be great if you showed up after 1pm when the children get home from school. Just let them know that you would like to help out right when you get there and they should be able to help you. (any of the staff or Sisters)
      Thank you for your generosity!

  61. HI my name is Rebecca and my husban and children and myself would love to come and visit you .We arive in bali on the 2nd of October.can you tell me a good day and time that we can come. Thanks Rebecca Glynn

    • Hi Rebecca!
I see that you are already on Bali and hope you get this. (I’ve just returned from 2 other off island orphananges that this same organization works with and am just now getting caught up on email etc) You can just show up any weekday after 1pm when the children get home from school.
I hope you are able to connect – thanks for caring!

  62. I am very interested in volunteering while I am in Ubud. I will be there from october 1 – 31st. Im a college graduate who would love to volunteer my services .
    Alison
    Baliamv@gmail.com

    • Hi Alison – glad to here that you would like to help! The best thing to do is to meet with Sister Clemensia and make a plan with her. (she is in charge) She is usually available most weekdays after 9am. Have a look at the website for a map on how to get there.
      Thanks for helping!

  63. Hello!
I hope this message finds you well! Next year in January, my Mother, Aunty, Sister and I are coming to Bali for 2-3 weeks and we would love to volunteer at the orphanage, and just spend time with the children if that is okay? My Aunty and I have both worked with small children for many years, I am studying to be a Teacher, my Sister is a Hairdresser and my Mum manages a large supermarket here in Australia. We want to give our time and help out during our time in Bali, as we have genuine, heartfelt compassion for others and believe it is the least we could do whilst visiting your beautiful country. Looking forward to hearing back from you and very excited about visiting you all and the children.
    Warmest regards and best wishes,
    Bec Saville

  64. I am a Japanese university student doing a thesis on “Japanese Overseas Volunteer Trips.”

For my research, I need some feedback from the host side of such volunteer trips. Therefore, I took the liberty of sending you an email with some questions, hoping you could help me by answering them.

    My concern is:
many Japanese young people travel to overseas facilities like yours to give volunteer support. However, there is a doubt that whether their support is really beneficial.

Please kindly give me your answer to following questions:

    1. Have any Japanese volunteer visited your facility to give support in the past?

    2. If yes, what activities by them were beneficial to you?

    * did you encounter any problems by the visit?

    3. If no, will you be interested in having such people in the future?

    4. Any comments to such volunteer trips would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your kind support.

    Yours very truly

    • Hi Aimi!
My sincere apologies for taking so long to get to you. I am currently in Bali and have just visited 2 other orphanages that these same Sisters work with on the islands of Timor and Sumba. There is not an “official” volunteer program, but volunteering can be set up on Bali if you meet directly with the Sister in charge, Sister Clemensia. I know that a team from Japan was at their orphanage the day of the tsunami in Japan. (I am still very sad to think about all that happened that day – I volunteered teaching English in Tokyo 20 years ago) The team did not know what had happened till much later that day.
Please try contacting the orphanage directly at this email if you have any further questions. pasidhiastu@yahoo.co.id
Thanks so much for your interest to help!

  65. lesley and Robert

    Hi,
We are coming to bali on 7th October for around 3 weeks.
We are bringing a suitcase of babies clothes over, would these be suitable for any babies you might have?

  66. Hello,
We are lucky enough to be visiting Bali from the 27th Sept to 5th October.
We would love to come out and visit and help where needed.
Please let me know how we can best assist and what goods are most needed at the moment or if cas would be preferred.
    Best Regards Jane

    • Hi Jane!
My sincere apologies for not getting to you sooner as I see you are leaving tomorrow. If you are able to make it, it would be best to just show up. The younger kids are always there and the older ones come home from school right after 1pm

  67. Hi,
My wife and I are going to be in Bali this October (she is a paediatric nurse and I am an accountant). We were wondering whether we could come and volunteer with you for 7 days? We’re happy to get stuck in with whatever is needed. The dates we would anticipate visiting are from sunday 9th october to saturday 15th.
We’d love to hear your thoughts, please get in touch!
    Pete

    • Pete and Bethany! My sincere apologies for only getting to you now.
The only way to volunteer is to meet directly with Sister Clemensia and make a plan with her. She is usually available after 9am but you might have to make a trip or two to get her for sure.
Again, I am sorry for not getting to you sooner and I hope it all works out.

  68. Hi.
I would like to contact someone regarding making a day visit and donation to the orphanage. We are visiting Bali between the 11th and 21st of October 2011. It would be great to establish a current “list of needs” so I can source as some materials before my flight.
I am Australian, male, 26, living in Sydney.
    Kind Regards
    Pete

    • Hi Pete – glad to hear you would like to help!
The 2 orphanages in Bali are doing great on all of their basic needs and have now only requested help with the children’s school fees. You can also have a look at the other orphanages that this same group of Sisters work with on other islands as their needs are very great at the moment. I just go t back from both of these orphanages and wrote a post here. http://thegiveteam.com/2011/09/25/sumba-timor-orphanages/

  69. Hi, we are coming to Bali on Wednesday 21st September and staying in Canggu and would love to come and visit. Do you need any baby toys & Clothes I have lots and if you need them I can bring them over. King regards Kim

  70. Hi again, I’m also wondering what the name of the orphange which is closest to Legian.Thank you
    Jan

  71. Hi, we are travelling to Bali from the 27th Sept until the 8th Oct, we have packed some goodies and would love to come and visit the Children,is any time O.K .’Kind Regards
    Jan

  72. How are you? I hope you are doing well.

I will be travelling to Indonesia for 3 weeks in early October. Instead of sight-seeing, I would love to contribute some time in helping local community.

I am an English teacher and activities organizer in Hong Kong for some years. I can also play piano. When I was in my Uni, I used to work in an orphanage in Cambodia to assist the daily life of these children. The experience with the children made me a suitable candidate to volunteer.

I am welcome with different tasks, no matter it’s indoor or outdoor. I am available for a week starting from 17 Oct.

Would you please tell me more details about your orphanage? For example,

1/ Does it include a programme fee to volunteer here?
    2/ How’s the job like?
3/ Does it include free accommodation? If it is not free, I am willing to pay some to stay in the orphanage.
4/ how to get to your place?
5/ Anything I should prepare or bring?

Please kindly advise and I am waiting for your reply.

    Best regards,
    Flossie

    • Flossie! (I like your name by the way – you sound fun already!)
It is wonderful that you would like to give so much of your time and talents. That is very kind. If I knew that I was going to be here, I might be able to arrange something ahead of time. But right now, the only way to volunteer is to show up during the week and make a plan directly with Sister Clemensia. She is in charge at the Sidhi Astu Orphanage and would like to meet people before committing to a schedule for work or teaching. To answer your other questions,1. there is no fee to volunteer.
      2. The “Job” can be what you and Sister creat together that works best for both of you.
      3. She has asked that people arrange for a place to stay outside of the orphanage and then just come daily.
      4. There is a map on the website here at this link. http://thebaliorphanage.com/map-to-the-orphanage/
      5. As of today, their physical needs are very well taken care of, but they are still in need of some of the childrens school fees. Any donation you might want to give can be given directly to any of the Sisters.

Thank you so much for caring Flossie!

  73. Hello, my name is rylee I’m a 17 year old student and me and 2 more students and a adult would love to come volunteer for 2 weeks during december this year, Id love to hear from to organize dates. And what we should bring and what we would be doing . It would be a privilege to come help out. Thank you

    • Hi Rylee! ( I replied to you on another page that you commented on, but just in case you don’t get that here it again)
Good for you for getting involved and helping! It’s people just like you that make this world a better place. The volunteer policy has very recently changed. Sister Clemensia asked that people that would like to volunteer would find accommodations outside of the orphanage and then just go there daily to help. She would like to meet with people before making a schedule/plan for them to help. With so much going on, it is not possible to make an “appointment” of sorts, but she is usually readily available in the mornings during the week while the children are at school. All the best to you!

  74. We are a group of 22 people from Standard Chartered Singapore who will be visiting Bali for a team trip. While there we wanted to do a volunteer program for half a day. Is there anything in scope with your organization? Tentative dates are the 1st Oct weekend.

    • Hi Tayna!
Wow! Your group sounds great! I am in Bali now, but will not be here when your group comes. Please contact Dewa at dewa@give-jewelry.com as he is the best person to help organize your day of work.
So gald you wrote and thank you for helping out the kids here!

  75. Hi Bali Orphanage,
I am British, currently living and working in Singapore, however my Indonesian boyfriend and I are thinking of moving to Bali within the next few months.
I would love the opportunity to come and volunteer with you guys on a regular basis if and when this happens. I have a CELTA and would be able to teach English amongst many other things.
I was wondering if you would be able to suggest anywhere in the area where I would be able to do something similar, but get paid?
We will be on a very tight budget!
I would really appreciate any advice and from your website your place looks wonderful!
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
    Nicky

    • Nicky – glad you wrote!
If you look herehttp://www.baliadvertiser.biz/ in the Bali Advertiser website, you should be able to post in their ads about your skills and the position you are looking for. It is widely read by expats and businessmen living here. With volunteering,,, that would be great! Just ask to meet with Sister Clemensia when you arrive and she will help to make a plan. (she is the head Sister here and communicates in English rather well)
All the best to you as you make your move! = )

  76. Hi. My children and I will be arriving in Bali on 21/9/11 for 2 weeks. The kids have some clothing that they would love to donate to your centre. I see that any week day after 1pm is a good time to come and visit, so if it is ok with you we will most likely visit on friday 23/9/11.
    Thanks.
    Kind regards,
    Dianne

    • Dianne – happy that you wrote!
That Friday would be perfect. (although I won’t be able to meet you as I’ll just be getting back from Timor with Sister Bernadetta and Victoria.) It is great to hear that you will be coming with your kids. See if you can bring some printed photos of your family and where you are from as the kids love to learn more about people who visit. Thank you very much for taking the time to visit – your generosity will be multiplied many times in the form of the children’s self esteem.

  77. Your organization seems wonderful and I would love to volunteer with you for a few days and help with whatever you need. I can teach English, create art projects for the kids, care for babies, help with construction or painting, help outside with weeding — anything, but I would like to help with the kids the most. I could arrive on the afternoon of October 14 and stay for 2-4 days if you might have any guest rooms available? I would also love to bring clothing or supplies for the kids if you could tell me what you need. I am a 32 year old female and I work Aran environmental non profit organization in New York. Thank you and best wishes!

    • Hi Megan!
So glad that you would like to help! I have just finished a week of meeting off and on with Sister Clemensia. She very much welcomes volunteers, but has asked that people arrange accommodations outside of the orphanage as they are finding it to be difficult to maintain their normal evening work with the children and still show proper hospitality to people volunteering. The best way to approach this is to meet with Sister Clemensia your first day there and make a plan with her concerning how you could best help and a schedule as well. fo needs…They have plenty of clothes for now, but are asking for help with the children’s school fees. (from 20 to 60 per month depending on their class level, 1st through University.)
Thanks so much for doing great things at home in New York and now here as well!

  78. Hello Charlie and Dewa,
I am planning to come for a visit to the orphanage on 3rd November. What ages are the children you care for as I will have a clothing donation but only want to bring things the children can use. What else would be suitable to bring? Soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes???
    Kind regards
    Lee

    • Hi Lee!
The 3rd would be perfect as it’s a weekday and most of the children will be there. Just come after 1pm and that way you can help welcome them home from school. Thanks so much for helping!

  79. Hello Bail Orphanage,
My husband and I and our 3 teenage children would love to come and visit your orphanage for a few hours to meet with the children, sisters and staff.
We will be arriving in Bali on the 3 December 2011, and staying in Kuta and Sanur. We would like to visit the Orphanage sometime after the 9th but before the 14th if this is possible.
We have a lot of donations for the children.
I look forward to your reply. You can contact me through email – leegaryh@bigpond.net.au.
    Regards Lee-Anne

    Please confirm if this is

    • Hi Lee-Anne!
Any weekday is best. Come just after 1pm and the kids will all be home from school. Happy that you will be visiting and thank you so much for your kind generosity.

  80. Belinda and John Cotton

G’day we’ll be in Bali in just over a week and my husband would love to come and do some volunteer work for you, staying over for a couple of nights or just for the day. Of course we will pay for his keep. He is fit, strong and healthy and is happy to care for the kids or cook or garden or labour, whatever it is you need. Please let us know if this is appropriate. We’re coming from QLD in Australia, and my husband (John) works in disabled care as his regular job. He’s extremely keen to help in any way. I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheer, Belinda Cotton, Sippy Downs QLD.

    • Belinda, John and family,
It sounds like the Sisters and children would really enjoy having your husband stay and help out. (and a challenge or 2 on the ping pong tables of course) If he would like to stay overnight (nights) just let me know the days and I’ll check to see if that is ok with Sister Clemsia.
      So glad you wrote!

  81. i would like to visit the orphnage on the 22nd September with my daughter, will will bring some clothes for the children. We would like to make it for 1pm and stay with the children for a couple hours

    • Hi Natalie!
The 22nd should work fine. It is very generous for you to be taking time out of your trip to bring clothes and visit with the children. So glad you wrote!

  82. Hi there
We will be in Bali in November 2011. We are gathering clothing, toys, shoes and books for the children, so our suitcases will be full. We would love to spend a day meeting and helping the children. My children aged 7 & 9 are very excited to be helping the Balinese children.
Could you please let me know how I go about arranging a visit. We would like to visit the Fransican orphanage.

    • Hi Josephine!
How great to hear that your young children are excited about helping others! (well done Mom!) Any weekday after 1pm would be great as they’ll be home from school. The kids have ping pong tables and a basketball hoop that should instantly get your children interacting with them. If you need transportation, just give Made a call, his contact info is on the “Transportation in Bali” page of this website. Thanks for writing!

  83. HI, We will be coming to Bali for about 20 days and would love to help at the orhpanage from the 5th Jan to the 8th Jan. My kids are 17, 16 and 14 and would be happy to play sport and teach the kids maths, english and perhaps some science. My daughter plays netball and has been a leader in youth camps. I would be happy to teach english to the kids. My husband is good at fixing things.

Would you like us to come to the orhanage near Kuta or to travel to the western side of Bali? Please let me know if you need us to help you at all, this will be from 5 – 8 Jan, 2012

    • Mandy!
So glad you wrote! Either place would be great so it would be up to you. Those dates sound fine and just keep in touch about 2 weeks before your trip and we’ll make sure that some specific projects are prepared for you. (all of your ideas you listed would be a great help to the children as well as the Sisters) All the best, charlie

  84. I am a teacher at Corpus Christi College in Perth, WA. I am interested in organising an immersion program for 16 students and 4 staff. We would be interested in working at the orphanage or any other institutions in whatever capacity- teaching, painting, gardening etc. Our wish is to establish an on-going relationship with the Franciscan Sisters in Bali so that we can fundraise for specific projects and return once a year or every two years. Our plan is to have a 10-12 day stay doing voluntary work.
I will be very interested to hear from you.
    Regards
    Soo Buckle

    • Soo! Your plan sounds great! A long term relationship would be wonderful as well as rewarding for all involved. I am meeting with Sister Clemsia tomorrow morning to discuss how to organize projects both long and short term. If you have a time frame in mind for your first trip, just let me know and we will get things going. Thanks for writing!

  85. Marianne Williams

Hi, we are a family from the UK with a 8,13,16 year old coming to Bali next summer 2012. My 13 year old daughter is very keen to work in an orphanage and we would love to donate a week of our holiday to helping you. My husband and son would be good handymen and could help build, repair, paint etc (although they are not builders or plumbers!), my 13 year old daughter would love to teach sport to the kids and she is keen on football, netball and any ball sports. I am a dietitian and would be delighted to look at their nutritional needs and I’m sure they could teach me about the wonders of Balinese cooking! Our 8 year old daughter would love to play with the kids and make friends for life. Please can you let us know if this would be of interest to you and then we can plan our journey. With many thanks, Marianne Williams.

    • Marianne!
That all sounds so great! It would be wonderful to have your family join in the efforts. It will be a great thing for the Sisters and children as well as an amazing bonding experience for your family as well. The is not a calendar planned that far out at the orphanange – but definitely plan on a week that works best for your family time wise and I am sure we can make it happen.
      Thanks for writing!

  86. Hi there 🙂
My name is Mia and I am a 27 year old Social Worker from Australia.
I will have some time available in October and hope to visit Bali for a rest and also to spend some time volunteering. Can you please contact me so we can exchange information and maybe discuss further? I have worked in India before.
    xxx

    • Hi Mia! I caught your comment on the facebook page already. Let me know here or on fb what dates you have in mind and we’ll see what we can make happen. Thanks for writing!

  87. Hi Charlie

Just checking in with you that it is still ok to go to the orphange on Wednesday 15th Sept. We arrive to Bali on the 11th. We don’t leave til the 23rd. So we hope that we are able to visit again before we leave. I look forward to meeting all the children and hoping to make a little difference in their day.

    • Hi Jodie! The 15th will be perfect. Come a bit after 1 and the kids should just be getting home from school. I am writing this from California right now, but will be in Bali from the 8th to the 20th so I might even get to meet you myself! If you need anything else just let me know. Thanks for giving!

  88. Could you please email me with information regarding child sposnsorship. Thanks and regards

  89. Hi. could you please email me with information regarding sponsorship of one of your children. Thanks and regards

    • Hi Farah! I do not have all the current info as to who still needs sponsorships, but I will meet with the Sisters next week to get these details. (their internet connection has not been working so I don’t know if I’ll have it before then.) Stay in touch here by subscribing to this website in the top right corner of any page and the posts that I’ll make will be delivered right to your email inbox. Thank you for your generosity and caring!

  90. Can I please have some information emailed to me regarding sponsorship of children and what my part in the process would be. I would love to give my bit of support in helping a child with their education and life. With Love Tamarah.

    • Hi Tamarah! I have been waiting on info regarding who still needs a sponsor but the internet connection hasn’t been working at the orphanage. (I am still in California as I write but will be there in Bali next week) I will be putting updates on the blog page of this site while I am there. If you would like to get the updates emailed to you, just subscribe to this site in the top right corner of any page on this website. Thanks for writing Tamarah!

Im am highly skilled in several things and am very willing to help with the health and needs of everybody living in the orphange.. Could you please get back to me on the number of children and approx ages of all living within the orphange.
Looking forward to hearing from you
    Kind regards
    Taya

    • Hi Taya! I am so glad you wrote! That sounds like a great group that you are a part of and I think you all are in for a wonderful experience. There are 14 orphanages in all that are overseen by the same Franciscan order that operates the orphanage that I made this website for. They are all on other islands and are VERY remote compared to this one in Tuka. Although there is always work to do at both of the Bali orphanages, what do you think about having the group split up for a few days to help the places off island. (Timor, Flores, Sumba etc) There could be gardens made, chicken coups built etc??? Let me know. Also, how many people are in your group? The children at the 2 orphanages in Bali average between 5 and 15 yrs and there are nearly 100 at each one. Thanks for writing!

  92. Hi there,

I am very interested in volunteering. I’m a 23 year old Canadian that just spent a year in Australia and Asia. On my way home, I’d like to spend a week volunteering in bali. I have previous experience teaching and in photogprahy. I’m looking to come the first week in November! Cheers,Corey

    • Corey! If you could help the kids out with their English speaking that would be great! They can always use help with their homework, so that would fill your afternoons as well. Let me know the dates that you come in and would like to volunteer and I will check it with the Sisters. Thanks Corey!

  93. Hi there, my family of myself, my husband Wade, my two children Ruby (5yrs) and Matilda (7 yrs) & my parents Janine & Dave are here until Tuesday morning. We have just spoken with our driver and he is available to take us to visit the children and bring some little things my girls have bought for the younger kiddies tomorrow morning – is this ok? We are in Pettitinget and would like to leave here at 10am so we be there 10.30-11.00am maybe? How many little ones will be there tomorrow that are not in school? We have little packages of stationery, books and stickers etc and we have made up 12 but they really only ok for 3yrs to 8yrs old….is this ok? Or do you just want it all in one bulk parcel instead and you can give to children accordingly….we can easily undo the packages and put altogether? Cant wait to meet you all and see the amazing work you do. With love, Sam.

    • Oh Sam I was sad that I missed your comment here! I often don’t get to check the comments every day so I see that Ive already left back home. I hope that you were able to go anyways. If you make another trip to Bali , please let me know about a week ahead and I’ll make sure that you are taken care of.

  94. Hi,

We will be in Kuta/Sanur/Ubud area from tomorrow 27th – 4th sep.
Which area is closer to your orphange ? Kuta ? If kuta/sanur isn’t too far away we’d like to come in for a visit & drop some supplies off to the kids 🙂 That’d be 27th aug – 30th Aug. Any day better ?
Can you email me at laurenmsmith83@gmail.com and let me know when is good to come visit, which area is closer to your orphanage, what time is good for you to drop by, how do we confirm with you & how it generally all works. Thanks SO much for your help 🙂

    Lauren

  95. Melanie Sharman

    Hi

My daughter and I, my mum, my sister and her husband and their two children are coming to Bali in September. We have clothes and shoes we would like to give to the children and we would happily assist with any jobs on the day we can visit. Would it suit if we came to visit on Friday 23 September?

    Kind regards, Melanie Sharman

    • Hi Melanie! That day would be fine. Just come a bit after 1pm and the children will be home from school. Bring some photos of your family and where you are from as the children always like to learn about you as well. (in fact – your pics will be a hit with just about anyone you meet in Bali) Thanks so much for your generosity Melanie and family. = ) oh yes…. for jobs to help with… just let one of the Sisters know that you would like to help out with something as soon as you meet them and they should be able to help. (ask for kitchen duty as that’s where all the fun happens!)

  96. Dear Bali Orphanage
My name is Kaitlyn and I’m 10 years old. I will be in Bali soon with my family. I have a new song coming out on itunes which is about helping children of the world and I would love the chance to visit, sing and play games with the children there. It would mean the world to me to be able to visit and maybe use them for my video which will reach about 50,000 people. I would be able to promote your orphanage too via my you tube site and the video to help raise money and awareness. Please let me know if this is possible. My you tube site is KaitlynThomasAust. I will be in Bali from 25th September to 8th October.

    • Hi Kaitlyn!
I just checked out your you tube channel and website at http://www.kaitlynthomasaust.com/ I think it is a great thing that you are doing and think that it would be wonderful for someone that is the same age as many of the children here to help. I will not be there when you are, but I know that we can set something up for you. Sometime around 2 pm in the afternoon would be great if you came on any weekday. If you could sing some songs for the children the would love it and it would go over VERY well on video as well. To help me plan, just give me 2 weekdays that would work for you and I’ll check with the Sisters to make sure that it works. Thanks for Giving Kaitlyn!

      • Hi there Charlie can you please contact my mum at the email we provided and provide her with the information. We will be in bali from 26th September to 7th October. Can you please advise which day is best? Also if there is anyone that can take us to your orphanage from our hotel it would be great! Thank you so much for letting me be a part of their lives!

  97. Hi there,we are visiting Legian and would like to visit the Orphanage 2nd Oct 2011 there are 2 families 4 adults and 4 children(12 and 17yrs) I’m abit confused is Maria Goretti and tuka orphanage 2 different places which is closer to Legian please.I will bring some items for the children. Can you give me the address and best time to visit on Sunday. My contact is kymhume@bigpond.com . Look forward to meeting with you.Kind Regards Gabie Hume(south Australia)x

    • Hi Gabie!
The Tuka orphanage (Sidhi Astu) orphanage is closest to Legian. Only about 40 min vs. 4 plus hours to Maria Goretti on the west end of Bali. On Sunday, the children and staff all go to a Catholic Church walking distance from the orphanage at around 6 am and the rest at 8am. If you won’t make it that early, just come after 9:30 am and they should all be back by then. There is a map to the orphanage on this page here: http://thebaliorphanage.com/map-to-the-orphanage/ Happy that you wrote!

  98. Maryanne Malouf

Hi, I was in Bali last week for the first time on holiday and only found out about the orphanage on my last day. I would have planned a visit if I had known about it earlier. Could you please send me information about children currently needing sponsorship.

    • Hi Maryanne!
So glad that you found out about the orphanage but sorry that you did not get to make a visit. I am currently in California right now, but will be at this orphanage next week. Many of the children have been sponsored recently, so I do not have a current list of who does not have one yet. I will be visiting 2 orphanages in remote areas of Indonesia soon after I arrive and I know that none of the children there have any sponsors yet. (see this link here for more infohttp://givejewelryblog.com/2011/08/30/7-days-till-bali/ I expect the needs at those orphanages to be overwhelming to begin with, so stay in touch as I will be updating as often as possible during my visits. Thank you for writing!

  99. Hi, my daughter and I were planning on coming to Bali in the first week of the holidays coming up to do some volunteering work and we would love to come and help at your orphanage! If you could email me the some information that would be great!

    Ruth Brown, Adelaide.

  100. Hi, I am travelling to Bali from the 2nd -10th of September. I would like to spend a day helping in an orphanage, we will be in Lombok for the most part of our trip. Do you know of any Orpahnages or schools that i can be of help to in Lombok?? I have 2 young children (that will not be with us this time, but i will certainly bring them next time as my son is learning Indonesian at school). I also have qualifications in child care. i will be in touch as i would love to visit your orphanage.
    Thanks Emma

    • Hi Emma! There is an orphanage that the same order of Franciscan Sisters run on Lombok. I have yet to visit there myself but I am looking to visit there around the same time as you. I will email Sister Corry and see if we can arrange something for you. Is there a day that would work better for you than others?

  101. I would like to visit the orphanage on week day after 1.00pm with my two sons aged 15 and 8. My son Tom (age 15) is a talented sportsman and is studying Physical Education. He would like to bring some Aussie Rules footballs with him and have a skills session with the children. He would like to donate some balls and a pump for future use. My younger son Max would like to bring some pencils and art supplies to share with the younger children. What would be a convenient day to visit? We will be in Bali from 16 – 25 September, 2011. We look forward to meeting with you and the children of the Orphanage. Regards, Danielle

  102. Hi,
I am coming over to live in Bali for 6 months from December onwards and was wondering if there was any voluntary work available? I am good with babies, children and up for lots of fun and challenges! I can speak basic Indonesian. I am going to be living with a Balinese family and i understand and respect the Hindu religion. I am 18 years old and waiting to train as a nurse, specialising in children and would love to help in anyway possible around the orphanage.
    thankyou,
    Kristie Wheal

    • Oh Kristie, the Sisters would adopt you in a heart-beat! (they very much appreciate the help of a person with a heart for children) You would be there long enough to work something out on a regular basis. (tutoring once a week with the same group, teaching English, etc) You would really get to know the children and staff. Keep in touch and let me know closer to your departure date what time frames you have in mind and I sure we can make something happen. thanks for writing!

  103. Hi,
I am planning to come to the Orphanage August 27th so please let me know of anything I can do to help/projects you would like me to get involved with 🙂

    • Hi Jessica!
the 27th being a Saturday, it would be best to just show up and help out with whatever is going on. (lunch prep, etc) Just ask for Sister Clemensia and let her know right away that you would really like to help. (otherwise she is so hospitable that she would not think to ask you) Glad that you wrote and please let me know how it goes here or on the facebook page http://www.facebook.com/thebaliorphanage

  104. I am coming to Bali and study at the udayana university in denpasar. I have a break for two weeks in november and I would love to come and help the bali orphanage. Greetings from Germany.

      • Claire Robertson

HI Charlie, The email did not arrive so maybe I should stick to this forum for communication! Looking forward to hearing when it would be a good time to visit you!
        Claire

        • Me again! Any weekday after 1 when the children are back from school would be great. It should be a great experiance for you and your daughter. Thanks so much for taking time out to meet the children and staff and also for your generosity. = )

  106. Hello. My wife and I are looking at visiting Bali in october 2011. The reason we ae visiting Bali is because we want to do some volunteer work there. Previously i have been a volunteer english teacher at Guadalajara university in Mexico, and between us we help out at Oxfam, Meals on Wheels, Make poverty History and Guide dogs. We are looking to help out for a week or so, with anything that needs to be done. Im not affraid of scrubbing toilets and hard work. Also besides general toiletries, shoes and clothes, is anything special needed? Thank you for your time

    • Hi Michael!
Stoked to hear about how you have been giving already! There is plenty of work to get your hands dirty, but if you could also share your English teaching skills, that is a great way for these kids to get careers later on with the ability to converse in English. Let me know what days you would like to be there and I’ll make sure that the Sisters are expecting you. As for needs, the ones you mentioned are always in demand. Thanks so much for giving!

  107. Hello
I am planning a trip to Bali in Feb/Mar 2012 and would like to know if I could do some volunteer work at The Bali Orphanage. I have my own accommodation and will organise my own transport to and from. If there is anything that you are in need of I may also be able to bring it with me from Australia. I haven’t done volunteer work in Bali before so any information that you can provide me with would be helpful.
I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind Regards
    Lorraine

    • Hi Lorraine! So glad that you found us and would like to help! Just let me know what dates you would like to spend here and I’ll make sure that you are expected. As for volunteering, you can do anything from helping out with the daily chores of cooking or cleaning to helping the children with their homework and practicing English with them. Get ready for a GREAT experience!

  108. My friend and I are from Australia and will be in Bali staying at Balian for four days from19th Sept to 23rd Sept. We would like to visit Maria Goretti PA on 21st or 22nd. We will be able to get a driver from Balian to bring us.
Please confirm a date and time for us to bring a suitcase filled with socks and pillow cases and towels. Some practical items that I am sure will be very welcome. Look forward to hearing from you as I am very busy collecting things to bring

    • Ibu Janet!!
Your visit and the items you are bringing will be very welcome! I will send an email to confirm a visit for you on Tue the 22nd at 1pm as this will allow for plenty of travel and visit time. As I’m sure you know about “Bali Time” please be patient if someone is not there right at 1 and feel free to walk around the beautiful grounds there. Thank you so much for your generosity!

  109. Dear Charlie/Bali Orphanage,

I am a licensed Occupational Therapist here in New Brunswick Canada and I am looking to book a trip/volunteer experience with an orphanage in Bali this year. I spent 2+ months living at a clinic in Haiti post earthquake (2010 & 2011) and I am really looking forward to volunteering abroad again soon. Would it be possible to provide me with additional information such as cost, length of stay (I was hoping for 3-4 weeks), accomodations etc? Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

    Sincerely,
    L Lovely

    • Excited to hear from a Canuck!! (I had MANY room-mates from Canada when I lived in Maui) There is no cost to anyone that is a genuine volunteer. There are simple but clean private rooms for you and you will have meals provided as well. There are 2 orphanages on Bali if you would like to split your time. One is 45 min from the airport and the other 4+ hours away on the West end of Bali. (the Maria Goretti orphanage) Your experience and skills would be very welcome so just let me know what dates you would like to help and I’ll make sure that you are expected.

  110. Dear all, I am going to be in Bali for a week from October 31 to November 6. It is my second visit to your wonderful island and I would like to spend some time with you — basically to introduce myself and to meet the children. I would like to return to Bali for a longer stay early next year and am looking for somewhere that I can help out with whatever is needed and that I can provide. If you would like me to visit on a specific day just let me know and I will arrange to get there and spend some time with you. Many thanks, Leanne

    • Hi Leanne! Any day that you are here would be fine. Just come after 1pm if it is during the week or after 9am on the weekends. I am sure you will enjoy meeting the children and staff. I am glad you found this website and please let me know if I can be of any further help.

  111. Hi, my daughter and a friend both 14 are about to start a year long personal project for school and would like to use your orphange as the base for this. It would include fundraising and collecting donations concluding with a week stint volunteering at your orphange (with parents). Could you please advise if this would be possible so they can put forward their ideas at school.
    Thanks

    • I am excited for this next generation! Stoked to hear about your daughter and her friends plan on making a difference!
Yes, Yes ,Yes this is possible and just keep in contact with me and I’ll make sure you get the help needed to arrange this.
Please Thank them for the inspiration and hope they just gave me,
      charlie

  112. Hi There

My partner and I are coming to Bali in Sept, we would love to spend the day with you. We would love to bring stationary/clothing. I am a teachers aide. My partner is a builder/mechanic. Would be happy to teach english. HOpe to see you soon.

    Much love
    xoxo

    • Jodie!!
Happy that you found us and would like to help! Teaching English would be great. The children all need help with their English and informal conversation is what they need practice in. (most of they have the grammar down but get all nervous when it comes to using it) Let me know a weekday that would work for you and I’ll make sure you are well received.

      • Thanks for the reply Charlie. We would like to come out on Wed 14th Sept. We arrive in Bali on the 11th, so couple days to relax and then head out. What is the best time, we are more than happy to spend the day with you. So looking forward to it. See you soon.

  113. hello,my name is nicola and i have visited your orphanage in the past and am flying to Bali this saturday and was wanting to visit the orphanage for a weekend if possible to help out in any way.The dates would be the 26th,27th and 28th.Is this possible? and is there anything i need to bring? ill also be bringing items for the children.

  115. Hi
My business has a bout 100 shirts we no longer use and 2 of our staff have volunteered to bring them to you this week when on holidays.
we hope you can use them.
    David Vicars

    • Hi David!
I really like it when businesses help out the kids. Its a great way to make a big difference! Don’t be surprised to see lots of photos on the different websites we have with your shirts in them for years to come. Thanks for doing your part to make a difference David. (for any Aussies reading this, you can help someone that has helped The Bali Orphanage by shopping at their site “The Good Guys” athttp://www.thegoodguys.com.au/NationalView

  116. hi, i’m traveling in bali at the moment and came across your website this morning. I would love to pop in and visit but i’m very short on time so would only be able to make it tomorrow afternoon, is that ok? no worries if its too late notice but i would love to visit if i can! thanks, lucy

    • That would be great if you could stop by. Thank you for taking time out of your vacation to visit the kids! Print out the map on the map to the orphanage page for you or your driver – or just give Made a call you will see his information on the transportation in Bali page

  117. Hallo, We are two families from Italy (4 children) visiting Bali.
We would like to visit you on the 18th or 19th bringing some things you need and make a donation. We like to explain to our children the importance of giving. It would be nice if there are some children.
Is it ok on the 19th at 15.00?
    Greetings
    Eugene

  118. Hello to you all,
My wife Kaza and I are visiting Bali for a week from the 19th of August and we want to visit and leave some gifts and with us being parents of four boys, we thought abount bringing sports gear such as soccer balls etc. Would this be good or are there more needed items? Is after 1 oclock during the week still okay to call in unannounced?
    Critter

    • Sports equipment would be wonderful. And yes anytime after 1 pm would be fine. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help. Enjoy your visit!

  119. Claire charlesworth

Hello. Myself and 2 friends are interested in volunteering at the orphanage. We were thinking from the 4th to the 10th of January 2012. One of us is a teacher one an artist and one a psychologist youth worker. We would like to stay with you for a week and we could help with any building or repairs or painting or we could do an art project with the kids or teach some English. Can you please let me know if this will be possible. Is there accommodation available and what do we do about meals.

  120. Claire Robertson

My teenage daughter and I are travelling to Bali in early Sept 2011 and would like to visit and bring donations. Do you need us to tell you when we are coming to visit?
    Claire 12/08/2011

  121. Hi Guys,

My family and I are travelling to Bali in September this year and would love to come visit! Is any day fine or would you like us to send you an email with an exact date and time?

Also with making donations would it be handy if we brought things such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and art supplies?

    Thank you,
    Nicole 🙂

  122. Hi, we are planning a visit to Bali from 13/08 – 23/08 and would love to visiti with my 5yr old son and 3 x nephews 14, 16, 17. We have a book that has been donated from my sons school that we would like to donate. It’s part of their ‘Library Ambassedor Programme”. Do we need to arrange a time or are we free to drop in any day after 1pm. Many thanks Kylie

  123. Hi

I am visiting Bali with some friends next week. We will be there from the 17th-21st August. We would love to visit and bring some things to the kids. I vistied last year and most of the kids were 12 -15 is this about right still? Can you tell me what you need and what the kids would like? Can you also tell me which day would be best to visit? Please email me so we can get started on getting donations together?
Thankyou and I look forward to seeing you all again!

    • Hi Sandra! There are also lots of children now from 5 years on up – so you could bring things for children in that range as well. There is still a need for shoes/socks and flip flops for all of the children, so if you brought an assortment they would all be put to great use. There are plenty of toys at the moment, but “cool” t-shirts for the older kids are like gold to them. Thanks so much for helping out Again!

  124. Dewa……could you you please contact me regarding arrangements for sponsorship many thanks Di

  125. Hi Charlie, i am coming to Bali on the 23rd Sept 2011 for one week with 4 other Mums from my sons football team. Before we come we would like to do some fundraising and collecting current needs and maybe a few extras through the football club and friends. What is the best way to arrange a suitable time for us come and meet the children and bring the donations?
    Cheers Kerrie, Tracey,Sharon, Libby& Shazza

    • Hi Kerrie! There is always someone there – but if you came after 1 in the afternoon on any weekday, that is a much better chance of more of the children being there. A suggestion… if you brought a team photo with all their signatures, even some team t-shirts if you have them in kids sizes.. oh man would the kids love them… Thanks for helping!

  126. Hi, I interested in volenteering for 3 months or more. Im 41 and would love to help. I can come over from Australia anytime. I would like to stay onsite. Any information would be great. I also intend to bring books and toys. I look forward to hearing from you.

  127. Dear Sir / Mdm,
Is it possible for Singaporeans to adopt a child from your orphange?
    Kindly advise.
    Thank you.

  128. Hi, four of us are travelling to Bali in late september, the 23rd till the 1st of October. We are all 18 and female, and would really love to have the opportunity to come visit the orphanage for a day, and bring some needed supplies for the children. We will look on the ‘whats needed’ part of the website for what to bring. Is it convenient if we come on the 26th of september (monday) after 1 and spend the rest of the day there? Thank you, Alice Williams.

    • Alice and friends…
The 26th should be great! and yes, just have a peek at the current needs page before you come. Be ready for a great experience (but careful though, I also was not yet 20 years old when I made my first visit – and that’s been 20years ago! best place on earth to get “stuck” though. = )

I am a primary teacher so could to do some teaching/organise activities if that would be helpful? 131. Hi Charlie,
Sam is 17…almost 18 (Oct). We are now in the Legian area and the kind staff here at the hotel spoke to one of the sisters at the orphanage for me. At the moment we are arriving about 6pm on this Sunday 7th. Hope that’s still ok. Jo Davids

  132. Matthew Connolly

    Hi Charlie and Sisters

I am a Catholic from Wagga Wagga, NSW, Australia and I will be in Bali (Semanyak) from 12 – 20 November this year. I was hoping to visit your orphanage at some point in the trip and to deliver you a cash donation on behalf of my family and friends. Does any particular date between 12 and 20 November suit you best? if so, what time on what date?
God bless you all for your contribution to caring for His vulnerable children.

    Matthew Connolly

    • Matthew!
A warm welcome to our Wagga Wagga brother! Your generosity with your time and finances is great. Thanks Matthew.
Any day is fine. There are more children around during the week if you come after 1 when they are getting home from school. Anything else I can do to help, just let me know. Glad you wrote. ~charlie

  136. Susanna Korkeamäki

Hi! We are two girls from Finland. We would like to do our practical training abroad and we are intrerested to do it in Bali. We are studying social services in Vaasa University of Applied Sciences. our practical training lasts for three months, from January 2012 to march 2012.

we would like to know more details if you have something available jobs to us. We are able to be volunteers.

I look forward to hearing from you,
    Susanna Korkeamäki and Jenniina Multisilta

    • Hi Susanna and Jenniina!
There would be LOTS of ways that you could help. There are 2 orphanages that we are currently working with, Sidhi Astu in Tuka 45min from the airport and Maria Gorreti about 4 hours further in West Bali. At times there are over 200 children, and helping with their schooling is always a need. Please email me your resumes at charlie@give-jewelry.com and we will get things started for you. Thanks for writing. `chalrie

  137. Hi, I’m coming to Bali from Australia September 7th for 3 weeks with no fixed schedule on my way to an orphanage in India. I travel with a ukulele and sing childrens songs and love involving children in music. I would love to drop in and visit the children and sing some songs, play some games etc. Also happy to provide any items you might require.

    • Hi Rose! Ukulele?!! Yes! the children would LOVE it! (me too – I used to live on Maui) Keep in touch and have a look at the “Current Needs” page here on this site the week before you come to see what to bring for the children. Thank you for your generosity!

  138. I am coming to Bali for a Yoga Retreat and would love to come help with the children during that October. I will be on my yoga retreat October 22-29, 2011, but I would like to come a week prior to volunteer. I am a yoga instructor and would love to share my gifts with the children and staff. 🙂 I need to book my flight ASAP and would love to hear from you so that way I can have something locked down. Thank you! Bianca Mora

    • Yay Bianca! The girls especially will love the yoga lessons (although the boys could use the relaxing techniques for sure = )) Please plan on helping out either in Tuka or Negara in West Bali. (where the Maria Goretti orphanage is) GIve me a holler here 2 weeks before your trip and I’ll make sure that something is ready for you.

  139. Hello,
I am in Bali for a few days from the 6th and was hoping I could come visit and would like to check what your current needs are. You do have on the site – flip flops and some clothing items. Is this still correct? Is there anything else needed at this time? Which day would be best for me to visit?
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hopefully coming to visit. You are doing wonderful work.

    Kind Regards, Donna (Australia)

    • Hi Donna!
Any week day after 1 is a good time to visit – and yes the flip flops, shoes etc are still the current needs. Bring a few photos of what life is like at home – the kids love to learn about you and life “far away.” Thank you for giving up some of your trip to meet the children and staff. Safe travels. = )

  140. Hi,
I’m planning a visit to Bali in 2 weeks and would love to come and visit! I am willing to do anything to help and get my hands dirty. Do I need to notify you before or is it ok to turn up?

    Thanks,
    Jess

    • Jessica! The Sisters and staff LOVE it when someone mentions “Getting their hands dirty!” There is always some type of work to do, although you have to be a bit persistent as the staff insists on sitting you down for a drink and snack. (they are very kind-hearted and want you to feel welcome) Just turning up would be fine, but you could also let me know what day you would be available and I’ll ask Sister Corry to have a project planned for you if you like. Thank you for your servant heart.

  141. Hello,
I will be in Bali late September this year for a short holiday. I would love to come and spend some time with the children and offer them some English lessons as I am an English and Drama Teacher in Australia.
Please email me at leahpappin@hotmail.com so that I can organise some fun lessons for the children. 🙂 Leah

    • Hi Leah!
Happy to hear that you would like to help out! You will love working along side the Sisters and staff as well as getting to know the children. If you have some specific dates in mind, just let me know here or at charlie@give-jewelry.com and I’ll make sure that you are expected and that at least some of the children can participate. Thanks for your generosity!

  142. Hello,

I have been travelling south east asia for 7 weeks now, and have been amazed by it’s beauty yet overwhelmed by the amazing people that i have met too- i am planning to be in bali at the end of august and would love to volunteer for a couple of weeks. I love children and have been actively involved with drama and performing arts withchildren- I can bring entertainment, humour and good company, I really want to give something back to south east asia to say thank you for this fantastic experience.

I think it would be rewarding and the highlight of my visit,

    Thanks, Bianca

    • Welcome Bianca! You are in one of the most amazing parts of the world and I’m happy to hear that you are soaking it in.
Let me know the dates that you are interested in coming and I’ll make sure that your time there is arranged for you. (get ready for a life-changer) = )
Also if you would like to stay at the orphanage. (there are simple but clean rooms available for volunteers – meals as well. all on a up to you donation basis)

  143. Hi to all at the orphanage
My husband and I will be in Bali from 10th August and would like to visit and bring some clothes, toys etc.I am a nurse so if I can help would love to. When is a good time to visit. A weekend is ok too for children who don’t have family to visit.
    Yours sincerely
    Cassie Needham
    needham2@optusnet.com.au

    • Hi Cassie! A nurse! Yay! If you could pick a specific day during your visit, I will let the Sisters know when to expect you and there is always a good chance that someone could use a “check up” of sorts. After 1pm during the week is great, and any time after 9 or so on the weekends although there are not always as many children around. (some have family that they stay with on the weekends) So Glad to have you help!

      • Hi Charlie
Is 21 st August ok ( Sunday)
        Cassie

        • Hi Cassie!
The 21st is great. Sister Corry will arrange for any of the children or staff that need a check up to meet you. If you want a real treat, show up very early (about 7am) and you can go to the open air Catholic Church with all the kids at 8am. They all walk down the street a couple hundred yards from the orphanage to the Church.

  144. Hello all at the Bali orphanage

My names Wendy and I will be flying
to Bali on the 3rd august, in 5 days time!

Not only can I teach but I am keen to get stuck in to any jobs of any kind. I will be travelling with a friend and I can offer a weeks worth of volunteer work as I will be flying over to Phuket to help more orphanages.

I really look forward to hearing from you all

    Wendy Lui

    • Hi Wendy! Looks like you might get this just as you leave for the airport. I hope you can still plan on a visit. Let me know what dates you have in mind and I’ll contact the Sisters. If you are already in Bali when you get this, feel free to drop by and meet the Sisters and arrange directly with them. Thank you for giving of yourselves. Safe Traveling!

  145. Hey!
My name is Briony Edgar and I am an Australian citizen. I wish to travel overseas and volunteer my time in orphanages this being the sole purpose of my trip. I graduated High School last year in 2010 and thus have no teaching qualifications although I have experience working with children through coaching them in various sports, teaching music, running and designing peer mentoring programs as well as working with mentally and physically disabled children. I’m happy to help in whatever way is most helpfull!
I wish to volunteer for at least three months and would like to travel within the next two months. The reality of the situation for me is that I would like to stay for as long as I can afford it.

    Thank you!
    Kind regards Briony Edgar

    • Hi Briony! So glad you found the site here – you are very generous to offer your skills and time. Don’t worry about not having teaching credentials – if you can help the children with their sports and homework that will be priceless. Send me the dates that you are interested in helping and we’ll see what we can set up for you. There are simple but clean rooms for volunteers, meals as well. (donation only based) Get ready for an amazing experience! …my email – charlie@give-jewelry.com

  146. Hi in Bali
My wife, Natasha and I will be visiting Bali next month and would love to come and visit. I run Brahminy Foundation in the Northern Territory of Australia which helps Australian youth at risk. See http://www.brahminygroup.org.au for more info. I have shared you on our facebook page also. The work that you do looks amazing and I look forward to meeting you.
    Allan and Natasha Brahminy

    • Hi Allan and Natasha!
I just had a look through your website – good on you for making a difference right where you’re at!
You can drop by anytime during the week after 1pm and there will be someone there to welcome you. Enjoy your journey and visit!

  147. Hi there. I am traveling to Bali from Perth on August 13th for 7 nights with my friend. We are stayin in Kuta! we would love to visit the Orphanage .We are both Irish! What can we bring to help the children? Can transport be organised? I look forward to hearing from you. Aoife 🙂 ( I also left this message on your facebook page)

  148. Hi, My family and another family would like to visit the orphanage to donate clothes etc. We arrive on the 1st August and would like to know if the 3rd or 4th august would be ok?
    Regards
    Belinda

    • Belinda, my sincere apologies for such a late reply. The emails and other communication got more that a month behind so a few of us are helping to get caught up. The 4th would be great to drop in. After 1 in the afternoon is a good time. For directions, have a look at this page here. http://thebaliorphanage.com/map-to-the-orphanage/ I will be checking the comments here daily now, so write back here if there is anything I can do to help.

  149. Hi Charlie,
Yes we will be in the Legian area near Kuta for 2 weeks, staying In the Padma resort Bali at Legian. We arrive on the 1st August and leave on the 14th August. When would it suit you for her to come to you for 4 nights? What about 4 nights from the 7th August? Or would the weekend be better? Really looking forward to meeting everyone. Jo and Sam xx

    • Staying 4 nights starting the 7th should be fine, but I’m just waiting to hear from Sister Corry that a room is available. How old is Sam by the way? This will help them prepare a schedule of which children she will be working with. Thanks Jo!

  150. Linda Thorncroft

Hi i am interested in finding out how myself and my daughter can volunteer our time to support the orphanage. I have managed a foster care program in Australia and my daughter has had a desire to help children less fortunate than herself for some time, she is 17 years old. How can we help? Regards Linda and Maddison.

    • Hello. My family and i are travelling to Bali with another family today and we all would love to come visit you all. Is there a good time to come? I was thinking Thursday or Friday. Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards Nina

    • Wow Linda, that is very generous of you and your daughter! It would be great to have you both help. (and what a bonding experience for the 2 of you) There are simple but very clean rooms that you can stay in if you would like to. The orphanage does not charge anything for the rooms for people that are there helping/teaching etc. Do you have dates in mind and certain ways you would prefer to help?

    • Hi Linda! That is great that you are helping children where you are at in Australia and that your daughter wants to follow in your footprints. Are you planning a visit to Bali or would you like to help from where you are at? I will be checking the comments daily now, so just reply back here.

  151. Greetings,
I am intersted in volunteering for 10 – 12 weeks. I would like to help in any way I could: teaching English, doing crafts & playing games with the children. I could also be of help to the Sisters with cooking, cleaning and other daily chores. Would I be able to stay in one of the guest rooms at the orphanage? I have sent any e-mail to the orphanage, & to Dewa & Charlie with additional information, including my qualifications, regarding this. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Wishes for continued success in the good work you do.

    • Following up with you here just in case no one has yet. I had forwarded your email and resume weeks ago when I first got it – but there has been quite the pile up of communications here for a month now. My sincere apologies for the trouble this has caused. Your resume and qualifications look wonderful as well as your experience. The children could greatly benefit from you working with them. Do you have specific dates in mind? The Sisters and staff have not been able to respond to all of the emails etc they have been getting – but I communicate with them often, so it would be easy to arrange a time for you to be here.
Thank you for your generosity and patience, ~charlie

      • Thanks for this response, Charlie. No trouble at all, I understand how things can go sometimes. As I mentioned in my e-mail to you, I will arrive in Bali mid-July 2012 and plan to stay until Oct. I will be in contact w/ you via e-mail before then to give you the exact date of my arrival, and to confirm any other details. Can’t wait to meet the children!

  152. Hi Dewa! Our family is coming to Bali in the 1st 2 weeks of August, and my daughter, Sam, would love to come and stay with you for 4 nights and volunteer with the children. Can she stay in one of your rooms? She is very good at art and music! Jo Davids

    • That should be fine. Could you send me the dates you have in mind and I will make sure the info gets to Sister Corry.
      Thanks so much, ~charlie

    Hi there.

I was reading in your ”planning a visit” section of your page. I would like to come and visit the orphanage for a day with my partner whilst we stay in Bali. We are there from the 30th May to the 17th of June. So a lot of time to come visit.
I’m also intrigued by the longer period stay. If I could get some more information such as, pre requisites, the amount of time you can stay there and volunteer, just the basic information, as I’m very interested in coming again after our holiday trip and plan a longer amount of time to help out at an orphanage.
Hope to hear from you soon.

  178. Hi Dewa,

My name is Sam and I am travelling to Bali with my sister and daughter between the dates 1st – 6th May 2011 and we would all love to come and visit the orphanage and bring along some clothes for the children and some little gifts too. I’ve had a look at the current needs page on your website also and will try to organise some things on the list there too.

If possible, can you please let us know the best time/dates that would suit the orphanage and the children’s routines during that time so we can make sure our visit suits your schedule rather than ours.

Also, if possible, can you provide some idea of how many children are there and the range of ages so we can try and make sure that no one misses out?

  193. Hi
We are coming to Bali for Christmas, and I wanted to bring my children aged 4 and 20 months to visit on Christmas day to bring some used but still in great condition toys they no longer use and clothes that no longer fit.
We also have some baby items including reusable nappies, clothes and bottles, that if are not suitable for the orphanage, perhaps you may be able to find a family that can use them.
My daughter (who is 4) is very excited about visiting the children and we are all looking forward to it, but are unsure if we would be welcome on Christmas day, or if there would even be any children there. If not, please let us know when would be a good time to visit.
    Kind regards

Oh, Thank you for the camera, we need it.

      Kind regards,
      Dewa

  215. Hi Dewa, I hope your recovery is going well. Last week Tues July 27th my 2 friends and I visited the orphanage and donated money, skipping ropes and some artists gear: pencils, textas, pastels. We did not have an interpretor so I was unable to communicate well. I would have liked to stress that I donated money so that the artists gear could go to the children to give them an opportunity to express themselves artistically, rather than to be sold. If you could let Sr Esther know that would be great.
There is more gear to donate which did not fit into suitcases on my trip so my daughter will deliver these in February next year.
The girls asked me to contact them on Facebook so I hope that’s okay with Sr Esther. I have some gorgeous photos of them and I think they’d like to see them on Facebook.
I enjoyed my visit to the orphanage and found it to be a happy homely place. I hope we can keep in touch. Patricia, Cathy and Suzanne

Dear Dewa, Regarding previous posting – If it is okay to bring along some instruments, could you please let me know how many children are currently at the orphanage. Thanks – Christine

  221. Christine Byrne

Dear Dewa – So sorry to read of your recent accident – will pray for your speedy recovery! Myself (47 years old Mum), my son Todd (17 years old) and daughter, Celeste (13 years old) will be in Bali, possibly along with 2 friends from Monday, September 27th, to Monday October 4th, 2010. I am a Pre School Teacher, my friends are a Primary School Teacher and the other a Doctor. We would love to stay at the Orphanage for 2 to 3 days assisting in whatever way we could. We are musicians, and perhaps could enrich your program with music. Would percussion instruments and recorders be beneficial to bring to donate and use with the children? My children are very gifted with spending time with children, especially young children – as we are used to having an overflowing household with many children coming and going. Could you please let me know in the next week or so what would be the best days to come and help, the cost of accommodation for myself and my 2 children and 2 friends (5 people in total) and how we can help. I can’t wait to come across and meet the gorgeous kids and the staff.

    • Dear Christine Byrne,
Hello, Thanks for your prayer and I have recovered now . Nice to hearing that you will be coming to the orphanage together with your family and also your friend. I please you to stay in the orphanage for 3 days. You can teach the children about music. The children will be very happy to play music together with you and your children. It`s ok if you want to bring some instrument!. You can do whatever you want to do for the children. For the teacher, She/he can teaching English to the children and the children will like it. For the Doctor, she/he can help the clinic near by orphanage. The best day to come to the orphanage on 28th of Sept. You can check the room when you came to the orphanage and you can stay in the orphanage .

      Kind regards,
      Dewa

My family will be in Bali from the 10th – 18th July. My husband and I and our two children, Jeremy (7) and Eliana (9) would like to come and visit.
We were wondering if the 12th July would suit.
My son Jeremy has organised from his soccer club some soccer Bibs and a ball and he would like to play soccer with the children if possible. My husband is a keen soccer player and would be happy to help coordinate some children to do this if you would like.
My daughter, Eliana would like to know if there is something that she can bring to give to the children. It can either be something we bring from Australia or something that we buy in Bali. Eliana loves craft. Roughly how many girls are in the orphanage?
Are there other specific needs that the orphanage has at the moment, I have checked the list and other than the shoes I am uncertain what you will need.

We are visiting Bali again on the 11th-24th March and we would like to visit your orphanage and bring some items for the kids. So far I have a range of toys, pens, paper, books, underwear etc.. We also have club t-shirts (around 30) spare from Aussie Rules Football club – would the boys like these? Also, are you still in need of winter/rain gear? Please let me know if I need to make an appointment before we arrive as I would like to visit when all of the children are there. Look forward to meeting them all and maybe playing a game or two!

Kind Regards, Jo, Ash, Zoe, James and Scott

    • Hi Jo,Ash,Zoe,James and scott,

Nice to hearing that you would be coming to Bali. The kids are waiting for your coming. The childrens will be very happy if you give them T-shirts or other things. I will be happy if i can help you when you are in Bali. The best time to meet all of the kids is after 12 o`clock in the afternoon.

      Thank you,

      Dewa

  256. We are heading to Bali next week and would very much like to visit. What would be the best day and time?

  257. hi I will be arriving in Bali 28th Feb for 2 weeks and would like to visit the orphanage , do we have to contact you before we come or what is the best day and time to visit?

    • Hi Kim,
There is no need to contact anyone before showing up, but it can be to your advantage to set up a time to visit as sometimes all/most of the children can be away at the school, day trip etc… Just pick a few days that might fit into your 2 weeks in Bali and I’m sure that one of those can work well. Dewa in Bali will arrange a time for you if you like. He can be reached either on the facebook page or by emailing the orphanage directly. (see “contact” page on this site) Excited for you and hope you have a great trip!

  258. Hi Charlie
We will be over in Bali in April this year and we as a family would love to visit your orphanage. I would like to bring some school supplies and some sporting equipment. Can you let us know what they need in the way of those things that we can bring.

    • Nicloa,
Both school supplies and sports equipment would be great as they use them up/ wear them out quickly with so many children using them. If you would like specifics, then just check back in closer to your trip in April and we can make sure that you know the immediate needs then. Either way- items like you mention are always in need. Thanks so much!

  259. HI Charlie,
It has been great reading all the information and comments on the orphanage, I am so inspired to come there and visit the Sisters and children on my trip to BAli, end of may, early June. I also would like to volunteer there at the Orphanage while I am there, cooking, cleaning, reading the children books etc,, whatever it takes, i would like to be a part of their existence. I am currently looking into holding a fundraiser to try and raise money for the orphanage to buy food, school supplies etc… My dad is very interested in helping me do this as he spent the first 8years of his life in an orphanage and knows only too well what it is like to live with so many children, and how the food has to be shared around so no-one is left hungry. I think it would be a big wake up call for any traveller to visit the orphanage, as we take so much for granted in our lives, and don’t realize how good we have it at our own homes. Please advise how i could be of assistance in the orphanage, and how does it all work becoming a volunteer with such an organisation?? I am a mother of 3 children, ages 16,12, and 8. I will be staying in Kuta, so is it best to go to the orphanage for a day, or arrange to stay there for a few days to help?
I will really look forward to hearing back from you.
    Cheers,
    Joanne

    • Hi Joanne! So glad you wrote. It is great that you are excited to help- it is an experience that you will never forget.
There are a few “guest rooms” that are simple but clean and comfortable that you would be welcome to stay in if you wanted to be there for a few days or more. Your children would be welcome as well and would have a lot of kids their ages to hang out and play with. There is a wide variety of areas you can help while you are there. Painting, cleaning, teaching English, gardening, helping with homework-(math is good as you don’t need to be fluent in Indonesian) and just simply spending time with the children. If you write again closer to when you come, we can set up a time for you to go. There is not a formal application process – if your show up willing to help, then you are in! =)
If I am not in Bali myself, then Dewa (our full time manager in Bali) will help you find the Orphanage and can possibly meet you in Kuta or talk with your driver and give directions. It is about a half hour drive from Kuta.
Please feel free to write again with any questions. – Thanks for writing! -charlie

  260. Hi, we are coming to Bali for a holiday from Western Australia, is it worth while bringing our second hand clothes from the kids in Aus for the orphans or is it other needs they require?

    • Yes! It is definitely worth while bringing second hand clothes. Even the new clothes here in Bali are usually much thinner and wear out quickly- so 2nd hand from another country is GREAT. I usually stop off at a 2nd hand store before leaving California and buy anything with sports or surf logos and anything else that the kids would think is “cool.” If you are coming soon, they still need backpacks and umbrellas. (see the “current needs” page on this website) Feel free to write again with any questions or if you would like to set up a time to go. Thanks for writing! -charlie

    • Hi Baba,
Nice to hearing that you would be coming to orphanage . The Childrens are waiting for your coming.
      Thank you
      Dewa

  262. Amber..I realized that I did not address your upcoming trip. Sorry-
    If you email using pasidhiastu@yahoo.co.id
Dewa is responding to most of their emails for them now and can help set up something for you. (his english is VERY good and he can usually get right back to you with answers from Sister Ester or Sister Corry.) They have rooms there that are for visitors and it can be a great experience – especially sharing meals, etc. with everyone there. You will really be part of the family. Thanks again!

  263. Dear Charlie and Christy,
wow! you have completely touched my heart by what you are doing for the orphanage. Myself and my family have visited the very same orphanage for the past 3 years. We have grown to love the children and love going back to see them each year to see how they have grown and progressed. It was wonderful to find the Facebook page and see recent photos of Vina and the other children. I posted some photos from my albums also. I think I have a few more and will find them.
I am planning on going back to Bali in June 2010 and would love the opportunity to give my time for volunteer work. I will be 27 by then and am not afraid of getting my hands dirty. Anything to help out the kiddies!
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Kind regards
    Amber

    • Amber, Thank you for your kind note! Wow! What a special place over there huh? I am writing this from California right now but each day starts with an hour or two of emails, etc dealing with the Tuka orphanage so I still feel connected. I am not sure exactly what happened a few days ago, but the facebook “fans” went from 1 or 2 new people a day to now it is over 50 people a day! The “stats” on the fb page has shut down so I can’t see what is going on yet. Dewa is our full time manager in Bali and is the one who is helping the kids post comments. I will post a clip on FB from his email to me yesterday that sums up what the children think of all this. Feel free to write messages directly to any of the children that you know. Dewa is now daily sitting down with the kids at the computer so they can see people’s comments/ questions etc. We are working on hiring someone else in Tuka to help with the facebook/ website etc as this turned into an instant full time job for Dewa and he won’t always be free to respond. Hopefully one of the 20-somethings that grew up at the orphanage that now is looking for work. Thank you very much for the photos you shared and yes please share any more that you find later. The kids are really liking getting to see their photos and remembering friends they’ve met. My sons are awake now so it’s time to help get the morning started. Thanks for writing! -charlie

  264. Julieanne,
It is exciting that you are going to Bali with your family and want to share part of your trip with the children in Tuka. There is a “current needs” page here on this website that would be good to check before you go. the link is http://thebaliorphanage.com/current-needs/
As for bringing your daughters, I am assuming that they are “triplets?” (“all 5 yrs old”) Yes, PLEASE bring them. Your daughters will be VERY well received and it will be a day that the children will talk about even weeks later. From Benoa, plan on about a 45 min drive to the orphanage. Write again about a week before you go to set up a time to visit. (either here or the orphanage’s email – pasidhiastu@yahoo.co.id
    Thanks for writing!

  265. Hi, my family and I will be in Bali in April 2010 and would very much like to visit the orphanage.
Firstly we would like to know what needs you require? We are travelling from Australia.
We will be staying in Benoa, how long does it take to get to the orphanage? We would also like to bring our children 3 girls who are all 5yrs old, is it okay? Many thanks

  266. Dear Charlie, I have emailed the following to the email address given, but just in case this is not received I thought I could post it here and if you have any suggestions/ideas/advice, please let me know. Thanks very much….

    Dear Bali Orphanage,

Just want to run an idea by you, I have previously emailed tuka email (webmaster@tukaorphanage.com) with no response. The reason I would like to get in contact with the orphanage is because in January I plan to come to Indonesia with some friends and we are trying to organise a “clothing drop”, where we come to places that need – like orphanages etc, and give kids that don’t have much clothing free brand new plain tee shirts that I am getting made in Bali.

I will be roughly looking at donating about 200 shirts in Lombok, and have another 100 shirts to donate throughout Bali so just wanted to know if the Bali Orphanage would welcome such a visit? This initiative is because my friends and I want to start a clothing company in Australia where every shirt or pair of shorts purchased, we will give a child a tee shirt in places where kids do not have many clothes.

Please advise if I can get into contact with anyone to organise, or whether this would be a good initiative at the Bali Orphanage?
We would only have a certain amount of shirts to give at the Bali Orphanage so please advise how many shirts, and what sizes, and what ages for the kids? We would ask that we can take some video and photos of the children enjoying the clothes getting handed out, and maybe a game of soccer if that is possible. We will be in Bali January 13th and would ideally be able to come and give the kids some shirts in between Jan 14-Jan17.

    Thanks very much

    Soren

  267. I am coming to Bali on the 2nd March till the 30th. My son is getting married to a Balinese girl on the 22nd. I would love to come and help out if possible. I am 63 yrs old andfemale.

    • Hi Dawn! First of all, congratulations! Balinese wedding ceremonies are amazing to be a part of, lots of work, but fun! It would be a pleasure to have you come and help. Do you have any dates in mind? Maybe you could come soon after your arrival to get acquainted with the children, Sisters and staff – and then you could make plans for more visits during the rest of your stay. Let me know what you think. Thank you for your willingness to help!
