Transportation on Bali. This are my personal opinions after 20 years of using transportation in Bali.

My first trip to Bali was nearly 20  years ago and I’ve been using the same person every time I rent a car or motor bike. His name is Made (surprise!) and he has a car rental place on Poppies 1. It’s called “Hita Car Rental” and is about 100yrds up the road on your left if you are walking away from the beach. Just call Made at this number 081338643159 when you are in Bali and he can take you to visit

the children at The Bali Orphanage (Pantai Sidhi Astu) in Tuka. SMS (text message him your email address and a short note if you would like to arrange transportation before you get to Bali) Made has a minimum of a 6 hour rate as his services are in such demand it does not make sense to do a 2 hour trip and then miss out on a full day trip. If you do not plan on at least a half day (total round trip) visit, then it would be better price-wise to arrange your transportation with another service.

Made’s rates are as follows – (Picking up from the Kuta, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Sanur, Legian, or Seminyak areas and the rate starts from the time you ask him to arrive at your hotel till he drops you off)

  • 6 hours total – 300,000rp
  • 8 hours total – 350,000rp
  • 10 hours total – 400,000rp
This rate above is for a maximum of 7 persons (a newer model APV van with good air conditioning) If you have a larger group, he has other vans, cars and drivers that can accomadate much larger groups (including a 30 passenger air-conditioned van)

I easily highly recommend Made and any of his services. In 2 decades I have

never experienced or even heard of him even slightly taking advantage of a client. I have watched his business grow from one car and a scooter to where it is now because of his great level of integrity. You will see throughout the site that I do not normally recommend services. This is because of high turnover rates of management and owners of businesses and hotels/accommodations.  I definitely have my favorite places, but I would hate to have someone have a bad experience because of my referral. (plus there are SO many sites that deal specifically with this and keep them updated)  Trip Adviser is a good place to start.

All of this to say that Made is someone that I would trust with my children (they’ve actually ridden with him on his motor bike) One “word to the wise” that might even get me some less than friendly comments below – BE VERY CAREFUL when using

“guides” that you just met or do not have a direct referral. There are plenty of guides that will only charge 150,000 for an entire day around the island, but will take you to restaurants and galleries that grossly overcharge you while your “guide” gets from 20% to 60% commission of your bill. Ok, enough on that. If anything, just use Made’s rates above as a guide to what is a fair rate for transportation while in Bali. He also has very fair pricing on rental cars and bikes and gives you the “real price” the first time you ask.

    • Natalie,
I added the country code to add if you are calling from outside of Indonesia. It’s 623681338643159 when calling from Australia. Try this number and let me know if you have any problems as I will see him soon. (I’m writing this from the Los Angeles airport and Made will pick me up when I arrive in Bali.) Thank you for letting me know about the trouble with the number – and thank you also for taking time to visit with the children.
